Classy Bikes

Lets talk about my bike…well I guess it really is the shops bike, and that I’ll sell it in a heartbeat if I had to.
But, hey, the Surly Travelers Check really kicks ass. Its been built up as a road bike, a mountain bike, a 29er, disc brake front, adventure bar rock and rolling bicycle. And its been to Jamaica.
So I need a SS cross bike for the weekend. That is all I’m saying about that.
When people come into the dental office or bike shop with bad ideas, I think back to younger days. Back in the day, I’d politely go out on a limb, and not charge anything. When it didn’t work, I’d shrug, and say ‘oh well’. No more. Today, when people come in and want to save unrestorable teeth, or make their SRAM shifting worth with Campagnolo parts, I just say no….unless its my bike.
So, I’ve got a rear wheel built, stripped off the gears/shifters, and just need to put a crank on the bike and its all set, right.
Hey, rather than pull the BB, I”ll just bolt on one of these timing cranks from a tandem crankset. Yippie!
One problem….the driveside for a timing crank is on the left side (non drive side), making the pedal that goes on a left pedal. No problem, I’ve got spare pedals…..Then I clip in and my foot is 10 degrees in toe out mode. Ahhhhh!
What to do? What would you do? What would Jesus do?
Well, I changed axles on the pedals, and now I have two left pedals on my bike, and both feet are toe in. Did you think your bike was ghetto?
